Ways to de-stress during exam season

Exams can be a really stressful period, so it’s completely normal to feel an increase in anxiety during this time, especially if you feel under pressure from your school or family.

Although exam stress is normal, if you feel it’s taking over your life you may want to seek more support by speaking to a trusted adult. Here are a few simple things you can do during exam periods to help de-stress:

Get talking

Revising can be an isolating time, so whether you feel like talking about exams and how you’re feeling, or you’d rather just chat to your friends about your current TV obsession, it’s important to take the time to connect with someone else.

Get walking

When we’re revising it’s easy to spend hours in our rooms or the library, so make sure you’re taking the time to get some fresh air. Going on a quick walk, even if it’s just 15 minutes, can help improve both your physical and mental wellbeing. You could even meet up with a friend for a walk and talk to take time away from your study space and clear your head.

Get creative

Focusing on something else when you’re stressed can be a great way to clear your mind, so why not do something creative like drawing, colouring or even learning a Tik Tok dance. Spending time thinking about something new that makes you happy is a great way to de-stress.

Get dancing

Whether you’re someone who attends dance classes or just likes to move along to their favourite playlist at home, dancing is a great way to boost your mood as it releases lots of endorphins. So why not follow a dance workout on YouTube, play a dance game on your console or just dance around your kitchen!

Get relaxing

You never need an excuse to look after yourself, but when you’re feeling stressed it’s especially important to take time to do the things that will make you happy! If you’re looking to relax, why not try a wellbeing evening filled with things you enjoy doing. You could start with a bath or shower, followed by a binge watch of your favourite show accompanied by your favourite snack.

Remember, you are so much more than a score or grade on a test and whatever your results are, it doesn’t affect who you are as a person.
